1. Title of Dataset: Dataset on porous spheres sinking through density and rheological transition Data were collected in Laboratory of Hydrodynamic Micromodels, Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences 2. Folder List: Settling_experiments 3. Additional related data collected that was not included in the current data package: - Data on rheological properties of solutions stored in the 'Rheological_data' folder - Data on profiles of density stored in 'Density_profiles' folder 4. Data collected in the folder: AS36_AS48 AS36_AS48XG08 where AS - artificial seawater (36 and 48 stand for content of salts in g/L), XG - xanthan gum (08 stands for XG content of 0.8 g/L). 5. Additional related data collected that was not included in the current data package: Data on rheological properties of solutions stored in Rheological_data folder 6. Methodological information: Polystyrene biopolymer spheres—both porous and non-porous—were observed settling in a two-layer liquid column. In the AS36_AS48 setup, the layers consisted of artificial seawater with differing salt concentrations. In the AS36_AS48XG08 setup, the lower layer was additionally enriched with xanthan gum to modify its rheological properties. Experiments were conducted at 21 ± 0.5 °C. The settling process was recorded using a camera in a backlight configuration. The resulting images were processed to extract data on the temporal positions of the sinking particles. 7. Data-specific information: Each sub-folder contains: several .csv files (equal to the number of all runs in the experimental set) called SolutionName_ParticleType_run_RunParticle.csv, where particle type is S_PS (sphere made of polystyrene with diameter equal to 1 mm), S_por (porous spheres with characteristics specified in a separate file). ParticleType is in the following format: Files contain data on the position of particle centroid in time in four columns: x [pix], z [pix], t[s] where x - horizontal cooridnate, z - vertical coordinate, t - time instant.
