Study of the mechanism of macroplastic litter transport in a stream with vegetation

This project aims to investigate MP transport processes in channels with vegetation. This project has 3 goals to be achieved in 3 work packages: to describe the nature of plastic pollution on the example of an exposed stream with vegetation in an urban area, including hydro and morphological conditions of the stream; to conduct a real-scale simulation of the pilot stream reach with vegetation in laboratory channel and observe of how various plastic elements move in conditions matching those in nature; to build a mathematical model of MP transport and using the collected data for calibration and evaluation of the numerical models. The project is carried out by a consortium of 3 units: Institute of Geophysics PAS, Institute of Hydro-Engineering PAS and Gdańsk University of Technology.
