This dataset provides long-term hourly hydrometeorological time series, including summer stream discharge observations (2014–2024) from the unglaciated High Arctic Fuglebekken catchment (1.2 km2) and continuous hourly precipitation records (2004–2024) from the Polish Polar Station Hornsund (SW Spitsbergen, Svalbard; WMO: 01003).
Runoff was measured during the active summer flow seasons (typically mid-June to mid-September/October) at the Fuglebekken hydrometric cross-section (4 m a.s.l.) using an ultrasonic Doppler flowmeter (Nivus PCM-F) logging at 10-minute intervals. The raw observations were aggregated to hourly means and converted to discharge rates (l/s) and flow velocities. Precipitation was systematically monitored using a standard Hellmann rain gauge at 6-hour intervals and disaggregated into continuous hourly totals and distributed intensities.
This dataset provides the empirical foundation for testing conceptual bucket-type rainfall-runoff models (such as HBV) that incorporate freeze-thaw adaptations (seasonal subsurface ice reservoirs and frozen-ground infiltration-blocking routines), split-sample calibration/validation frameworks, and hydrological non-stationarity diagnostics in transition-state Arctic permafrost basins.
